It recognises the importance of educating and empowering the end user at all levels and for all professions. It builds on and complements professional education and practice principles, and generic ICT skills, to cover the increasingly important area where computer systems used in the health sector may challenge both established professional practice and good data management.

Local Health Systems
The ICDL Health syllabus was developed by an ECDL Foundation working group of international experts and was validated simultaneously in countries with very different health systems: Italy, and Finland.

ICDL Health recognises that national requirements, including patterns of practice, culture, language and legislative frameworks, vary from country to country; therefore specific local versions of the certification have been created in association with health informatics experts in Italy and Finland. The certification tools developed by these countries will continue to yield wider benefits and facilitate new countries in offering similar programmes.

ICDL Health certifies that a candidate:
  • Understands the key features of a Health Information System (HIS)
  • Can use a HIS safely and efficiently
  • Understands the ethics, rules and regulations relating to HIS

This module is equally useful for individuals, employers, and educationalists.

The range of skills and knowledge contained in this module are particularly relevant in the current technological landscape because more and more people are now using computers to communicate, share information and purchase goods and services online. As a result, cybercrime is becoming more widespread, and methods of, for example, phishing, spamming, and breaching security are becoming more sophisticated - as are the new technologies that facilitate them.

Please note that as this module has only been recently developed by ECDL Foundation, it might not yet be available in your country. Please contact your national operator to confirm its availability.
